That’s why its so important to make your album covers really spectacular. Follow these 5 tips and you will be off to a good start.
1. Hire a professional photographer and graphic designer. You spent big time on your album, don’t cheat yourself on the cover.
2. Make sure your art is unique to the feeling of the sound that you have created. If your album is for relaxation, make the cover reflect that. If its for high energy yoga, make it say that too.
3. Make the text big and easily readable from far away.
4. Take a look at successful albums and do something different but keep those in mind.
5. Make the title either the best song or a feeling that captures the album as a whole.
Follow these steps and you should be a bit closer to making an awesome product!
5 Great Album Covers
1. Grace by Snatam Kaur This has been our most popular album ever. The album cover conveys "grace", "happiness" and "sacredness" - all important feelings conveyed in the music.
2. Awakened Earth by Mirabai Ceiba. I love this album cover. I love seeing the instruments, the graphic elements, Markus and Angelika connected to the sun and earth. I love the mix of the professional photography with the graphic design and it is completely unique.
3. Prem Siri by Nirinjan Kaur- I really disliked this cover at first. There was an alternate picture of Nirinjan with her eyes closed. I liked it so much more. You can see how much weight I really carry around here. There was a consensus that we have so many album covers with artists with their eyes closed, that the eyes open one was "unique". I have come around and agree, this unique element puts it on my top 5!
4. I Am Thine by Jai-Jagdeesh. Jai-Jagdeesh's whole booklet evokes such a good feeling of India and her fusion music. The choice to be in the water in her kurta is such a unique element to the India experience. Bathing suits weren't the norm when we were kids so jumping in the sacred waters looked just like this. Very cool choice.
5. Harnam's A Fearless Heart. This cover is very clever. The imagery combination of the guitar, relaxing at peace on a high post gives a nice feeling to the title of the music. The combination of the title and the graphic evokes a feeling- and this is what we want.
